The resin constituting the shell layers consists of a vinyl resin mixture contg. a component of a relatively low mol. wt. and component of a relatively high mol. wt. respectively having max. values within a range of 8X10 to 3X10 and 8X10 to 5X10 in the mol. wt. distribution curve by gel permeation chromatography at the mol. wt. distribution at which the ratio of Mw/Mn attains >=5.0. This toner is required to contain such vinyl resin at 8 to 25wt.% ratio to the total weight of the core particles and the shell coating layer.

When the amount of the surfactant used is below 0.1wt%, the dispersion becomes unstable, while when it exceeds 1wt%, the water resistance, etc., of the formed resin are adversely affected, which are not desirable.
