    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discotic liquid crystalline material exhibiting a homeotropic alignment property.
      SOLUTION: The organometal complex compound exhibits a discotic liquid crystalline property and aligns homeotropically. The organometal complex compound contains, in particular, a dithiolene structure and is represented by general formula (1). In the formula, M is a metal cation and the metal cation is a cation of a metal selected from among Mg, Al, Si, P, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Cd, In, Sn, Sb, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, Au, Hg, Pb and Bi; Rs are the same or different and are each selected from among hydrogen, halogen and a 1-100C substituting group selected from among an alkyl group, alkoxy group, alkylthio group, aromatic group, substituted aromatic group, oxyaromatic group, oxy-substituted aromatic group, thioaromatic group and thio-substituted aromatic group.
