    • PURPOSE:To reduce the axial length of a variable displacement compressor, by enabling to vary the discharge capacity of the compressor by turning a movable valve plate relative to a fixed valve plate and moving suction ports or discharge ports in contact of and away from valve elements. CONSTITUTION:In applying the present invention in a swash plate type compressor in which a piston 3 is moved reciprocally in a cylinder 41 by rotating a swash plate 2 fixed to a turning shaft 1 by the aid of balls 22, a valve plate 7 consisting of a ring-like fixed valve plate portion 71 and a movable valve plate portion 72 is disposed between a housing 4 and a side housing 6. Further, a suction valve plate 73 and a discharge valve plate 74 forming respectively three suction valves and three discharge valves (both not shown) are disposed between the valve plate 7 and the housing 4 and between the valve plate 7 and the side housing 6, respectively. With such an arrangement, the discharge capacity of the compressor is varied by turning the movable valve plate portion 72 relative to the fixed valve plate portion 71 and thereby moving suction ports 721, 722 formed in the movable plate portion 72 relative to openings formed in the valve plate 73.

    • PURPOSE:To lessen a shock at engagement of a clutch by providing a compressor with a displacement varying member which varies the ejection capacity of the compressor and by turning a solenoid clutch ON with the ejection capacity of the compressor reduced, when the compressor is driven. CONSTITUTION:Both an evaporator 5 which is disposed inside a ventilation casing 11 of an air conditioner, and a compressor 12 which constitutes a refrigeration cycle together with a condenser 2, a receiver 3 and an expansion valve 4 are driven by an engine via a solenoid clutch 13. In this equipment, the compressor 12 is of a capacity varying type and includes a capacity varying member. The capacity varying member is controlled by rotating a worm gear 18 by means of a servo motor 17, which is controlled by a control circuit 16. The control circuit 16 controls the servo motor 17 to reduce the ejection capacity of the compressor 12 when an air conditioner switch 21 is thrown in and a load condition inside a vehicle requires air conditioning operation, and then has the solenoid clutch 13 engaged.

If the manual switch 12 is turned on, it is compared with small capacity exchange temperature T3 and large capacity exchange temperature T4, to control stoppage, 50% and 100% operation of compressor 1. With such arrangement, useless delivery of compressor delivery is eliminated resulting in power saving.

At this time, when blowoff air temperature out of a vaporizer rises more than the setting value, the compressor 12 is controlled to be turned to the large capacity operation side. However, when the cooling water temperature becomes yet higher than the setting value, the compressor 12 is controlled so as to switch into the minimum capacity operation as well as when load further continues and therefore water temperature rises, a solenoid clutch is turned off and stopped. Thus not only overheating in the refrigerant temperature is prevented, improving the controllability.

Since the heat pipe 4 can transfer a large quantity of heat even with a small temperature difference by transferring the latent heat of evaporation and condensation of the working fluid sealed therein, a satisfactory heat exchange can be performed between the air flowing into the cooler 1 and the con- densed water, thereby enhancing the cooling power remarkably.
