    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protease inhibitor and antibacterial agent which is effective for the prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases, excellent in safety and used for medical uses and as a foodstuff component. SOLUTION: The protease inhibitor contains a protein having 5.0 to 6.5 isoelectric point or its partial peptide contained in rice (Oryza sativa) as an active ingredient. The protein or its partial peptide as the active ingredient has a specific amino acid sequence, and inhibitory activity and antibacterial activity against the protease of periodontal disease bacteria, Porphyromonas gingivalis. The oral composition or foodstuff are obtained by adding the above protease inhibitor or antibacterial agent.
