    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a membrane electrode assembly for improving reliability, mechanical strength and handling properties of a seal in a solid polymer fuel cell.SOLUTION: The membrane electrode assembly comprises: a polymer electrolyte membrane 13; a first electrode layer 12 formed on one face side of the electrolyte membrane; a first porous gas diffusion layer 11 formed on an opposite side from the electrolyte membrane of the first electrode layer; a second electrode layer formed on the other face side of the electrolyte membrane; and a second porous gas diffusion layer formed on an opposite side from the electrolyte membrane of the second electrode layer. When a resin frame is provided to surround a whole outer peripheral edge of the electrolyte membrane and the vicinity of at least the first and second electrode layers of outer peripheral edges of the first and second gas diffusion layers by die forming to the membrane electrode assembly, material of the resin frame is restrained or prevented from entering the gas diffusion layers and/or the electrode layers.
