    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the enlargement of the variable range from the standard air capacity to the low air capacity side thus making a floor installation type air conditioner easily cope with the alteration from the water cooling type to the air cooling type, in the air conditioner which supplies the blown-off air to a room to be air-conditioned by way of a duct. SOLUTION: This air conditioner is constructed such that a heat exchanger 1 and a fan 12 are accommodated in a casing 2 and blown-off air is supplied to a room to be air- conditioned by way of a duct 5. In this case, the casing 2 substantially has the same configuration as a casing of a floor installation type water cooling type air conditioner having a specific standard heating and cooling capacity. The heat exchanger 11 has the heat exchanging capacity larger than the heat exchanging capacity of a heat exchanger 11 applied to a floor installation type air cooling type air conditioner having a specific capacity larger than the specific standard heating and cooling capacity of the above-mentioned water cooling type air conditioner. Furthermore, a fan 12 which has an air capacity and approximately similar to an air capacity corresponding to the specific standard heating and cooling capacity of the water cooling type device is used. Due to such a construction, the alteration of the floor installation type air conditioner from the water cooling type to the air cooling type can be carried out while maintaining the same capacity and same installation site and the same duct after the alteration.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the time to an abnormal stop as long as possible by distinguishing a refrigerant deficiency state from an operating state in which an atmospheric temperature is low and deciding it. SOLUTION: The air conditioner has a refrigerant circuit A having a compressor 1, a condenser 2, an expansion valve 3 and an evaporator 4 attached with an indoor fan 6 sequentially connected. The air conditioner comprises a deciding means for deciding a refrigerant deficiency state in which a refrigerant amount in the circuit A is insufficient, when the valve 3 is fully opened and a pressure difference between high and low pressures in the circuit A becomes a predetermined value or more; and a control means for controlling to lower the discharge temperature of the compressor 1 when the refrigerant deficiency state is decided by the deciding means to fully open the valve 3, and to control to lower the discharge temperature of the compressor 1 when it is decided that the valve 3 is fully opened and the pressure difference between the high and low pressures becomes the value or more (that is, the deficiency state is decided). The control to lower the discharge temperature of the compressor 1 is executed, thereby suppressing the rise of the temperature generated due to the deficiency operation.
