    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen roll maintenance and to improve chromate film quality by suppressing and preventing the surface contamination (the flocculation and adhesion of deposits from a chromate treating liquid) of wringer rolls which remove (drain) the excess adhesion components of the chromate treating liquid applied on a galvanized steel sheet surfaces in chromate treatment of the steel sheet. SOLUTION: Spray nozzles 4 are installed at the wringer rolls 3 and the chromate treating liquid of the same liquid composition as the liquid composition of the chromate treating liquid to be applied on the steel sheet S is sprayed to the rolls 3 to prevent the drying of the roll surfaces. The roll surfaces are held in a moist state at all times and the cooling and washing effects by spraying of the liquid are added thereto, by which the roll surfaces are kept in the clean state free from the deposits and floc. If the spraying of the liquid is executed by directing the spray nozzles 4 toward the upstream side peripheral surfaces of the wringer rolls 3, the spilling of the spraying liquid on the steel sheet surfaces does not occur and the liquid draining of the wringer rolls is not hindered.

    • PURPOSE: To produce a vacuum vapor deposited and galvanized steel strip which is free from mottled patterns on the surfaces by regulating the temp. of a steel strip just before winding the steel strip around a winding roll heated at its front surface to the evaporation temp. of zinc or above at the time of winding the steel strip around the winding roll and depositing zinc vapor thereof by evaporation while the steel strip is made to travel around the roll. CONSTITUTION: The steel strip 14 which is a material to be plated is annealed in a reduction annealing furnace 2 and is transported via a soaking duct 3 to a cooler 4 where the temp. of the steel strip 14 is adjusted. The steel strip is then transported to a first vacuum vapor deposition chamber 9 where the steel strip is made to travel while the steel strip is wound around the first winding roll 6 heated to about 500 deg.C. The zinc vapor is then vacuum deposited by evaporation on the one surface of the steel strip 14. Further, the steel strip is transported into a second vacuum vapor deposition chamber 10 where the steel strip made to travel while the steel strip is wound around the second winding roll 7 heated to about 500 deg.C. The zinc vapor is then vacuum deposited by evaporation on another surface of the steel strip 14 and thereafter, the steel strip is transported to a temper rolling mill 13. The temp. of the steel strip just before the winding rolls 6, 7 is set in the temp. range of 250 to 300 deg.C or 150 to 200 deg.C in the operation. The formation of the mottled patterns on the surfaces of the vacuum vapor deposited and galvanized steel strip is thus prevented.
