    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a canistor which can efficiently capture and separate a large amount of vapor fuel generated in a fuel tank, and keep a satisfactory on-vehicle property. SOLUTION: A canistor 1 has activated carbon chambers 19, 20 for capturing vapor fuel generated in a fuel tank. The canistor 1 has a vapor passage 3 for introducing the vapor, a breather passage 12 for introducing the vapor remarkably generated at the time of oil supply, a purging passage 14 for purging the captured vapor, and an atmospheric side control valve 30 for communicating the inner space of the canistor 1 with the outside. The breather passage 12 and the purging passage 14 are communicated with an outside diffusion chamber 62 arranged outside the canistor 1. The outside diffusion chamber 62 is further communicated with a diffusion chamber 61 inside the canistor. The vapor largely introduced through the breather passage 12 at the time of oil supply is evenly and steppedly diffused. It is also poosible to improve adsorption efficiency of the vapor to an activated carbon layer 22, through the diffusion chamber 61 and a filter.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To diagnose whether a separation film which separates an internal space of a fuel tank into a fuel chamber and an air chamber is in a movable condition or not by providing the separation film and using a physical quantity in the fuel tank in which the separation film moves vertically together with a liquid surface of fuel while it adheres closely to the liquid surface thereof. SOLUTION: A separation film 5 made of a material which is flexible and have the impermeability of fuel vapor such as polyethylene is arranged in an internal space 4 of a fuel tank. This separation film 5 separates the internal space of the fuel tank into an air chamber 6 and a fuel chamber 7 in the upper and lower parts thereof, respectively. Moreover, a fuel remaining amount detector 37 for detecting a remaining amount of fuel in the fuel chamber is provided to detect a displacement amount of the separation film 5 from the vertical movement of a detection rod 38 and convert it to a remaining amount of fuel. The fuel tank provided with the fuel remaining amount detector 37 which detects a displacement amount of the separation film 5 is used to diagnose a failure based on a difference in integrated running distance and a difference in fuel remaining amount output which corresponds to it. That is, a displacement amount of the separation film 5 is used as a physical quantity to diagnose a movable condition of the separation film 5.

    • PURPOSE:To secure adsorbing performance of an evaporation fuel adsorbing layer by allowing air to flow to the whole evaporation fuel adsorbing layer. CONSTITUTION:An activated carbon layer 3 is arranged in a housing 2. An air chamber 4 is formed between an activated carbon layer bottom end surface 3a and a housing bottom end surface 2a, and an evaporation fuel chamber 2 is formed between an activated carbon layer top end surface 3b and a housing top end surface 2b. The air chamber 4 is communicated with the atmosphere through an air inflow port 6. The evaporation fuel chamber 5 is communicated with an intake passage of an engine through an evaporation fuel outflow port 10 on one side and with an evaporation fuel source through an evaporation fuel inflow port 11 on the other side. When air is allowed to flow into the air chamber 4 from the air outflow port 6 in which a throttle is formed, the air collides against the housing bottom end surface 2a, and then it is approximately uniformly spread into the whole air chamber 4. Since air is allowed to flow in the activated carbon layer 3 through approximately the whole surface of the activated carbon layer bottom end surface 3a, evaporation fuel adsorbed in the activated carbon layer 3 can be well separated.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent vapor accumulated in the down part space of a main chamber having a vapor lead-in port and a purge port from easily blowing through to a subchamber having an air lead-in port. CONSTITUTION:A main chamber 3 and a subchamber 4 equipped with absorbent layers 7, 8 for the sake of adsorbing vapor are provided in the casing 2 of a canister 1. A vapor lead-in port 19 for leading vapor into the main chamber 3 from a fuel tank 20 is provided in the main chamber 3. In the same way, a purge port 22 leading out separation fuel separated from respective adsorbent layers 7, 8 to an intake passage 23 is provided on the main chamber 3. Still more, a communication passage 30 for mutually communicating respective spaces 28, 29 on the lower sides of the main chamber 3 and the subchamber 4 is provided, a projection pipe passage 31 projecting in the space part 28 side from that communication passage 30 is provided, and the opening end 31a thereof is faced upward to be arranged in the upper position inside the third space part 28. Therefore, the vapor accumulated in the third space part 28 never flows out to the communication on passage 30 through the projection pipe passage 31 so far as no vapor rises to the upward position.
