    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and drastically reduce the variation of bulging molten metal surface during stationary casting. SOLUTION: This molten metal surface level control device is provided with a molten metal surface level meter 4 for detecting the surface level of the molten metal 2 in a mold 5 in a continuous caster, a PI controller 10 for outputting the opening degree command for a sliding nozzle 3 arranged in a tundish 1 based on a deviation between the molten metal surface level measured with the molten metal surface level meter 4 and a setting molten metal surface level, a sliding nozzle controller 8 for adjusting the flow rate of the molten metal 2 from the tundish 1 by inputting the opening degree command from the PI controller 10 to adjust the opening degree of the sliding nozzle 3, and a disturbance compensating device 11 having characteristic extracting the variation of the bulging molten metal surface having large specific period from the deviation signal between the molten metal surface level and the setting molten metal surface level and outputting by advancing this phase characteristic to a specific range. Then, a signal multiplying the outputted signal from the distance compensating device 1 by an adjustable gain 12 is added to the opening degree command from the PI controller 10 to obtain the final opening degree command of the sliding nozzle 3.
