    • PURPOSE:To produce thick-walled hollow pipes of blank material of cylindrical iron or steel products at high yields and high performance by suspending a core which permits gas cooling within a mold placed on a molding board, in a manner as to be prevented from floating by a weight, and casting molten steel by bottom pouring from the rising port of the molding board. CONSTITUTION:A mold 2 made of cast iron is placed on a molding board 1 having a rising port 12 for bottom charging, and a weight 4 is placed thereon by way of a centering and height adjusting ring 3 of a core 5. An outside cylinder 6 and inside cylinder 7 made of steel and a hollow core 5 contained with MgO type refractories 8 at the intermediate thereof are fixed to the weight 4 and these are so set that their leading ends come near the molding board. A plug 8 made of refractories is fitted to the leading end part of the core 5 and the outside surface thereof is covered with a cap made of steel. A gas, such as Ar or N for cooling is introduced through the gas guiding tube 11 provided in the core 5 and while cooling the core 5 by this gas, molten steel 14 is cast by bottom pouring through the rising port 12 of the molding board 1 up to the top end of the heat-insulating sleeve in the upper part of the mold, whereby the bottomed hollow steel ingot is produced at high yields of steel ingots.

    • PURPOSE: To cast hollow steel ingots with an excellent yield, by suspending with a pressure a hollow core composed of steel-made inner and outer cylinders whose front ends are closed, and an intermediate layer made of refractory materials in a bottom pouring mold, so that the front end part of the core is kept from the bottom of the mold, and by pouring the molten metal into the mold.
      CONSTITUTION: A cast iron-made mold 3 is placed on a board 1 provided with a cross gate and a molten metal rising port, and a core 6 is attached to a weighted core supporting frame 5 and suspended in the mold 3. The core 6 is a hollow cylinder with a closed front end and contains a refractory material layer 8 in the space between a steel-made outer cylinder 7 and a steel-made inner cylinder 9, and, at the same time, the core 6 has a gas inducing tube 10 at the hollow part in the cylinder 9 for introducing a low temperature gas, such as nitrogen, etc., to cool the core 6 from the inside. When the molten metal is poured into the mold 3, the front end 6a and small cylindrical port of the side wall part 6b of the core 6 are melted by the molten metal, but a bottomed hollow steel ingot having a hole at the center can easily be manufactured because the inner cylinder 9 cooled and the refractory material layer 8 maintain their original shape.
