SOLUTION: A round billet which is heated with a heating furnace 1 so that the temp. of the material to be rolled after piercing is less than the temp. (>=1000 deg.C) where the hot ductility is rapidly lowered is pierced with a piercer 2 at the temp. less than the hot ductility lowering temp. and the hollow pipe stock is conveyed to a shape straightening machine 3 and, moreover, heated before inserting a mandrel bar with a solenoid type induction heating device 4 for assistantly heating. By inserting the mandrel bar into the hollow pipe stock which is heated to a degree that the rolling capacity of the mandrel mill 5 is satisfied, the pipe stock is rolled to a prescribed thickness with the mandrel mill 5, the mandrel bar is pulled out and the pipe stock is conveyed to the reheating furnace in the next stage.

In this obliquely piercing and rolling, in the case that the biting of the base stock billet 1 is insufficient due to the reaction force of the plug 3, while imparting a back pressure to the stock 1 with a pusher 4, the piercing is conducted until the billet 1 is stably bitten. In particular, in the case that a round cast metal of the stock is a hardly workable material, this method can produce a seamless tube not having a flaw on the inner face by using conventional equipment. An alloy steel which contains >=0.5% Cr, >=1% Cr+Ni+Mo and further as required, >=0.001% S and in which porosity or the like is apt to cause in the center part of the cast metal, is used as the hardly workable material.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a lubricant for the production of seamless steel tubes, which can be fixed to the surface of a mandrel bar over a wide temp. range and has excellent lubricating performance, by dispersing a water-insoluble fine synthetic resin powder, fine gilsonite powder and graphite in water. CONSTITUTION:16-36wt% water-insoluble fine synthetic resin powder, 15-40 wt% gilsonite powder and 30-69wt% graphite are dispersed in water. Optionally, a surfactant, a high-molecular dispersion stabilizer, an alkaline substance, etc. may be used for the purpose of stably dispersing said powders in water. The reason why asphalt component is limited to fine gilsonite powder is that when other asphalt component is used, adherability during film formation is lowered and particularly, the quantity of the depositing lubricant and bond strength are greatly reduced during re-coating. The synthetic resin must be water-insoluble and must have a glass transition temp. lower than the surface temp. of a mandrel bar to be coated with the lubricant.
