    • PURPOSE: To provide a bar code reader which can precisely be adjusted so that bar code readability becomes uniform in a read diameter and whose adjustment operation is easy. CONSTITUTION: A picture signal outputted from an image sensor in accordance with the reading of a bar code is amplified in an amplifier and is binarized in a binarization circuit. At an adjustment mode (120-Y), whenever a binarization signal is inverted during a period until scanning (reading) is terminated after the reading of the bar code is started, the signal levels of an amplification signal are detected and they are sequentially stored (140-200) after standby for prescribed time t0. After scanning is terminated, the amplitude A of the amplification signal is calculated based on the stored signal levels and the amplification factor of the amplifier is changed (230-270) when amplitude A is not within a prescribed adjustment range. Then, the detection of the signal levels, the calculation of amplitude A and comparison with the adjustment range are repetitively executed until amplitude A comes into the adjustment range. Thus, stable binarization is executed because the amplification signal having prescribed amplitude A is inputted to the binarization circuit in terms of average.

CONSTITUTION: Operation switches 20 consisting of rubber switches and a display part 21 for bar code read confirmation are provided on the substrate 19 on the reverse surface side of an upper case 13. Each operation switch 20 consists of an elastic operation part 24 which has a push-button part 24a, having a fixed contact part and a movable contact part 23 on the substrate and projecting from the top surface of the upper case 13, and a support part 24b in one body and is made of rubber. The display part 21 is composed of an LED 25 on the substrate 19, a through hole 134c formed in the upper case 13, and the sticker 26 covering the through hole 13c. The elastic operation part 24 is provided integrally with a coating part 27 covering the part including the LED 25 of the substrate 19 to secure the creepage distance S against static electricity. The elastic operation part 24 is formed by two-color molding, and the coating part 27 is translucent and the top part of the push-button part 24a is colored.

    • PURPOSE:To accelerate the speed for reading optical information and to suppress the power consumption of a device for reading the optical information while using a CCD image sensor concerning this device. CONSTITUTION:Just after the power source of the CCD image sensor is turned on according to a reading command from a reading switch (t0), the cycle of a transfer clock for successively outputting image signals from the sensor is set to a start cycle shorter than normal reading time and when the power source is turned off, electric charges stored inside the sensor are speedily discharged. Afterwards, when the sensor is started and its output gets normal, the face is detected (t1) and the cycle of the transfer clock is switched to a read cycle longer than starting time when the image signals can be fetched (t2). At the same time, an illumination LED for reading object irradiation is turned on as well. As a result, the speed for reading the optical information can be accelerated by shortening the starting time of the CCD image sensor, and the power consumption can be reduced by suppressing the time for turning on the illumination LED at an irreducible minimum.

CONSTITUTION: A projection piece part 27 for receiving the substrate 17 is provided on an upper divided case 13, and fitting grooves 31 and 31 in which both the top and bottom end parts of the plate-shaped main part 18a of the lens 18 are fitted are formed in both divided cases 12 and 13. A cut part 24 is formed in the upper edge part of the substrate 17 and a projection part 26 which engages with the cut part 24 is projected from the lens 18. Then, the upper divided case 13 is mounted upside down on a work bench and the substrate 17, lens 18, and lower divided case 3 are incorporated in the upper divided case 12 in this order. Consequently, while the lens 18 is fitted so that both the top and bottom edge parts of the plate-shaped main part 18a are fitted in the fitting grooves 31 and 31, the lens 18 presses the substrate 17 against the projection part 27 and the projection part 26 engages with the cut part 24, thereby suppressing the vertical and horizontal motion of the substrate 17.
