    • PURPOSE:To confirm the state of deterioration during use of a device by detecting the working current of a semiconductor laser and judging the presence or absence of the deterioration of the semiconductor laser based on the detected working current. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 150 performs A/D conversion of the detection terminal voltage from a current detection circuit 120 into digital terminal voltage in the case of transition processing to the current measurement mode. Thus, when the A/D conversion is completed, the microcomputer 150 converts the digital terminal voltage into the working current value in proportion to the voltage and converts the working current value into, for example, to an ASCII code and the outputs of the conversion working current value as the current value data. When the output power of the emission laser light of a semiconductor laser 30 is lowered, the working current to the semiconductor laser 30 is increased and compensated by the feedback of the output signal from a photo diode the semiconductor laser 30 built-in to an LD driving circuit 100 so as to prevent the power lowering.

    • PURPOSE:To provide an optical information reader which can be made thin even being an optical system that is never affected by the originating wavelength of a laser. CONSTITUTION:A concave mirror 13 consists of a first concave part 31, a second concave part 33 and a plane part 35. The concave parts 31 and 33 and 33 and the plane part 35 are set with their reflecting optical axes shifted. Thus, a laser light source 11 and a light-receiving element 21 can be arranged by appropriately separated from them. The concave parts 31 and 33 are a part of spheroid E1 and E2, and E1 and E2 share focal points F1 and F2 and an axis A. The diameter of E2 is set to be larger than that of E1. Since the concave mirror 13 is constituted in two stages, the thickness of the concave mirror part in the direction of thickness in the reader can be reduced, and the optical system can be made thin. Since light is converged by the concave mirror 13, a conventional condenser is not required, and the length of an optical path can be shortened. Then, the concave mirror 13 is not affected by the fluctuation in the wavelength of laser and therefore the semiconductor laser can be used as a light source.

    • PURPOSE:To compact a hologram and to accurately read out information by projecting the reflected light of a target from a light source through the hologram again to the hologram, converging the light and reading out information. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam 101 projected from a laser projector 1 is reflected by a light source reflecting mirror 4 and made vertically incident upon the hologram 3. When a motor 2 is rotated, the hologram 3 also is rotated and diffracted light scans a bar code from multi-direction through a reflection mirror 5. When the bar code 7 is scanned with the diffracted light 102, the reflected light 701 is reflected by the mirror 5 and made incident upon the whole surface of the hologram 3. The incident light is reflected by a reflecting hologram element 3a and diffracted as reflected/diffracted light 702, which is converged upon a photodetecting element 6. The element 6 executes photoelectric conversion in accordance with the intensity of the converged light. Consequently, a hologram with a small area can be used and accurate reading can be attained.
