    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool for turning cutting, which improves an operation rate of the machine tool because a machining operation of the machine tool is not stopped for changing a workpiece through such an arrangement that the machine tool itself automatically changes a workpiece during a machining operation even if a workpiece changer is not equipped separately. SOLUTION: A multifunctional machine 1b is provided with: a machine body 2; a tool holder 3 for holding a tool; a first head stock 4 for holding a workpiece 8; and a second head stock 5a for holding the workpiece, while facing the first head stock, and at least performs turning cutting. The second head stock is provided with a front chuck 34 and a back chuck 36 for gripping the workpiece, and exerts a workpiece changing function by turning about a turning center axis CL1 in a direction parallel to a Y-axis direction. SOLUTION: This lathe 1 is provided with a bed 5, a housing 13, a headstock 10 disposed at the bed and comprising a support base 14 for supporting the housing, a spindle 11, a first tool rest 44, and a second tool rest 50. In the support base, a recessed part opened to the upper face and both end faces in a Z-axis direction is formed at the upper part which is formed to project onto the second tool rest side in the Z-axis direction, and a tool rest body 51 of the second tool rest can advance/retreat in a space below. The housing is provided with a holding hole that passes in the axial direction of the spindle and holds the spindle rotatably, and a mounting part 13b with the lower face provided on a horizontal plane including the axis of the spindle. The lower face of the mounting part is held to the support base in a state of abutting on the upper face of the support base and having a prescribed clearance between the outer peripheral surface and the recessed part inner peripheral surface of the support base. The quill 18 is formed with a vertically passing elongate hole with its longitudinal direction placed along the Y-axis direction, and the saddle 17 is formed with a vertical through hole vertically overlapping with the elongate hole. The machine tool 1 is further provided with a feeder 77 comprising a fed member fixed to the saddle 17, and a driving member disposed at the moving frame 16 in a state of being inserted through the through hole and the elongate hole to move the fed member in the X-axis direction.
