      SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyronitrile from the 1,3-dihalo-2-propanol and the cyanide donor by an enzymatic reaction in an aqueous system is characterized by comprising (1) the process of distilling the aqueous reaction solution after the finish of the enzymatic reaction to recover the un-reacted 1,3-dihalo-2-propanol and the un-reacted cyanide donor, and (2) the process of repeatedly using the recovered cyanide donor and the recovered 1,3-dihalo-2-propanol for the enzymatic reaction once or more.
