    • PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of scratching in the outer peripheral part of fuel rods and to make improvement in assembling efficiency by withdrawing protective tubes covering the fuel rods into a grid space, then pulling the protective tubes from the grid space. CONSTITUTION:The outer peripheral parts of the respective fuel rods 6 are coated with the protective tubes 15. An upper moving base 14a of a fuel rod withdrawing machine 12 is advanced to an assembling base 11 side. A protective tube withdrawing tool 18 is inserted into the assembling base 11 and is engaged with an end plug 16 of the tube 15 set in a fuel rod magazine 10. The moving base 14a is then retreated to withdraw the fuel rod 6 together with the tube 15 into the space on the base 11. An expanded diameter part 18l expands the diameter of the grid space at this time and, therefore, the scratches are not generated in the outer peripheral part of the fuel rod 6. The end lug 6a of the fuel rod 6 is thereafter attracted to an attracting device 32 and the lower moving base 14 is advanced to engage a protective tube puller 19 with the end plug 16 of the tube. Only the tube 15 is pulled to the withdrawing machine 12 by retreating the moving base 14b. The fuel rods 6 are withdrawn into the respective grid spaces on the base 5 and the tubes 15 are stored by repeating such operations.

    • PURPOSE:To enable preventing the occurrence of scratches by a method wherein, after the springs on both the front and rear sides of the wall part which forms lattice spaces are warped so as to project at the inside of wall parts and to insert fuel rods, the springs are warped back to be brought into contact with the surface of fuel rods with pressure. CONSTITUTION:Springs 9 supporting a fuel rod 6 are formed like the approximate circular arc of their cross section and loose parts 22 are set at both ends thereof. Further, when the top part of a spring 21 is pushed with pressure from the rear side of a wall part 7 to the front side thereof to move, the spring 21 is warped at the reverse side to project the outside. After in lattice spaces 5 of a support lattice 20, the rods 6 is held by pull-in rods to pull so as not to be brought into contact with dimples 9 and mounted on the dimples 9, the pull-in rods are inserted in the upper spaces to warp the springs 21 and put into contact with the rods 6. Therefore, the production of scratches on the outer circumferential face of the rods can be prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To make lower nozzle fitting operation unmanned and to reduce the possibility of exposure in the operation by providing a mechanism which clamps a screw in a screw holder. CONSTITUTION:A holding mechanism 47 for conveyance locks and holds one of the screw holder 51 where the screw 59 for lower nozzle fixation is put, a lower nozzle N, and a guide plate 7 selectively. Further, a carrying mechanism 40 moves the holding mechanism 42 for conveyance between a mount base 52 for the respective members and the lower end position of a control rod guide pipe. Further, a pressing and fixing mechanism 5 presses the guide plate 7 or screw holder 51 which is locked by the holding mechanism 47 for conveyance against the lower end to the control rod guide tube and fixes it. Then a screw clamping-in mechanism (automatic screw clamper 67) presses the screw 59 in the screw holder to the lower end of the control guide tube through a lower nozzle fixing mechanism which can press the lower nozzle N against the lower end of the control rod guide tube and fixes it and the lower nozzle N fixed by the lower nozzle fixing mechanism.
