    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect existence or nonexistence of an expansion of a battery can which accommodates a secondary battery in a simple construction without incurring an increase in cost.SOLUTION: The battery system includes a secondary cell 7A composed of a laminate electrode body connected to a cathode and an anode terminal, which is housed in a cell can 11A, the cathode terminal and the cell can 11A being electrically connected; a secondary cell 7B composed of a laminate electrode body connected to a cathode and an anode terminal, which is housed in a cell can 11B, the cathode terminal and the cell can 11B being electrically connected; a cell can voltage sensor 9A which measures a first voltage of the cell can 11A; a cell can voltage sensor 9B which measures a second voltage of the cell can 11B; and a BMU 15 which accepts, as its input, the information corresponding to the first and the second voltages measured by the cell can voltage sensors 9A and 9B, characterized in that, when the first voltage rises and the second voltage drops substantially at the same time it rises, the BMU 15 activates expansion detection information based on the above information.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery system that determines the connection state of a pull-up resistor or a pull-down resistor of a battery cell in a simple configuration.SOLUTION: The battery system comprises a battery cell including first and second electrode terminals and a conductive battery container, a first resistor having one end connected electrically with the first electrode terminals and the other end connected electrically with the battery container, a voltmeter for measuring the voltage between the second electrode terminal and the other end, a second resistor, a switch capable of connecting the second resistor electrically between the first and second electrode terminals, and a controller. The controller can determine whether or not the first resistor is connected electrically with the battery container, by monitoring the change of voltage when the second resistor is connected electrically between the first and second electrode terminals by controlling the switch from open to close, or when the second resistor is disconnected electrically between the first and second electrode terminals by controlling the switch from close to open.
