    • PURPOSE:To economize fuel cost by making a plurality of clutches provided in a propelling system detachable in accordance with a driving mode. CONSTITUTION:In ordinary navigation, a main engine 1 is driven by a substantially rated rotational number. In this state, a driving mode A is selected, and an AC rotating machine 7 supplies an AC power of a specific voltage and a specific frequency to a power source bus 18 through a frequency converter 14. Particularly, when the sea surface is calm, a driving mode D is selected since the variation in the rotational number of the propeller 4 is small. In this case, since the AC output of the AC rotating machine 7 is supplied to a DC source bus 18 not through the frequency converter 14, difficulties such as generation of waveform strain, lowering of efficiency and the like can be evaded by no way of the frequency converter 14 and surplus circuits. By selecting the driving mode in correspondence to the navigation state as described above, economization of fuel cost due to the shaft power generating system can be performed.
