      3 are 6W16C bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon groups), wherein part of units (C) are bonded to part of glycol units (B) through ether linkages to form units (D) of formula IV, these units are present at a specified ratio and the logarithmic viscosity as measured in a phenol/tetrachloroethane (1:1 by weight) mixture at 0.5g/cc and 30°C is 0.85cc/g or above.

    • PURPOSE: To heighten the rigidity, strength and elongation at break of a copolyester, by effecting the acetylation and polymerization of a cooligomer of a specified polyester or oligoester with a hydroxycarboxylic acid at high temperature.
      CONSTITUTION: A cooligomer is formed by contacting a polyester or oligoester comprising recurring units of formula I (wherein R
      1 and R
      2 are each a 4W20 C alicyclic hydrocarbon bivalent radical, a 6W20C aromatic hydrocarbon bivalent radical or the like), suitably, polyethylene terephthalate or its oligomer, with a hydroxycarboxylic acid of formula II (wherein R
      3 is a 6W20C aromatic hydro carbon bivalent radical) and heating the mixture at 150W350°C and atmospheric pressure. The mixing ratio between the both is 5:95W95:5 (in terms of a molar ratio of said recurring units to the hydroxycarboxylic acid). This cooligomer is mixed with an acetylating agent (e.g., acetic anhydride) and subjected to acetylation and high-temperature polymerization (at 280W350°C) and further subjected to deacetylation at a reduced pressure and in vacuum to obtain a copolyester.
