    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drying part of a high-speed operating paper machine, having good traveling performance. SOLUTION: This drying part D of the paper machine uses a single wire draw and is composed of two or more drying groups, wherein a paper web W snakes and travels through an upper train of drying cylinders 20 and a lower train of reversing cylinders 21, while being supported on drying wires F. The first drying group R 1 of the cylinders extends to such a point that pressure generated by shrinkage of the paper web starts to have an effect of opposing the traveling of the web, wherein the web has a solid content of 50-65% at the point. A traveling component 30 is arranged in a pocket space T which is composed of the drying cylinder, the reversing cylinder, and the drying wire F in the first drying group of the cylinders, so that a high negative pressure of 1,000-8,000 Pa is given to such an area in the pocket space that the web is separates from the drying cylinder 20, and the traveling component generates a low negative pressure of 100-500 Pa at least in the other area of the pocket space.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drying method for a fiber web solving the problem of a curling caused by the sharp water content gradient in the fiber web without enlarging the equipment and without impairing drying capacity.
      SOLUTION: The method for drying the fiber web such as a paper web or paperboard web is provided. In this method, because the fiber web (W) is dried in such a manner that substantially one side thereof is dried in a belt drying unit (RC) at least one drying step, a water content gradient is caused in the fiber web (W). This method comprises the following practice. The fiber web (W) is dried by an impingement drying unit (RP) substantially just before and/or substantially just after drying it in the belt drying unit (RC), thereby leveling the above-mentioned water content gradient. In this impingement drying unit (RP), the fiber web(W) is dried from the side opposite to the side to be dried or dried by the belt drying unit (RC).
