    • PURPOSE: To obtain phosphonoformic acid with a high productivity by breeding species to be used and changed in cultivation conditions, by cultivating a strain of the genus Streptomyces under aerobic conditions, and collecting the phosphonoformic acid from the resultant culture fluid.
      CONSTITUTION: A strain belonging to the genus Streptomyces, e.g. Streptomyces hygroscopicus SF-1293 strain (FERM-P No. 996), is cultivated in a culture medium used usually for cultivating a microorganism of the genus Streptomyces under aerobic conditions preferably at about 28°C for 4W6 days. The resultant culture fluid is then usually subjected to chromatography, etc. to give the aimed phosphonoformic acid.

    • PURPOSE: A phosphinite salt, as a starting compound, is made to react with acrolein acetal, treated with an acid, nitrilated, and hydrolyzed to give the titled compound, in high yield, which is used an intermediate of herbicide or mildew proofing agent.

      1 is lower alkyl, allyl, phenyl which may be substituted) is made to act on a phosphinite salt of formula I (M is alkali metal such as Li, Na or K) to give 3,3- dialkoxy-propylphosphinic acid or its salt of formula II (M' is same as H, M). The product is treated with an acid to give 3-oxopropyl-phosphinic acid, which is made to react with NaCN or KCN; NH
      4 Cl/aqueous ammonia. Then, the resultant aminonitrile is hydrolyzed by the Strecker method, followed by hydrolysis of the product, 2-(hydroxyphosphinoyl)ethyl-5-hyndantoin of formula IV, to give 2-amino-4-(hydroxy)phosphinoylbutyric acid.
