    • PURPOSE:To prevent any short circuits which might be caused due to the contact between a belt-like lead-out section and a case by bringing a positive current collector, which consists of a current-collecting section and the belt-like lead-out section having a convex area adjacent to the current-collecting section, into cantact with the exposed end of the core metal projection of the positive electrode rolled into a spiral form. CONSTITUTION:One end of the longitudinal direction of a positive electrode 1 is provided with a positive core metal projection 1a and one end of the longitudinal direction of a negative electrode 2 is provided with a negative core metal projection. After a separator 3 is interposed between the positive and the negative electrodes 1 and 2 in such a manner as to protrude the projections from the upside periphery and the downside periphery respectively, the thus formed body is rolled into a spiral form to make a plate group. In addition, a positive current collector 5 consists of a current-collecting section 5b and a belt-like lead-out section 5a having at least one convex area 5c which is parallel to the section 5a and is located adjacent to the section 5b. As a result, it is possible to easily fold the section 5a to form an acute angle when the section 5a is led out after the section 5b is fused to the positive core metal projection 1a. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent any short circuits which might be caused due to the contact between the section 5a and a case 9.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the high-rate discharge characteristics of a battery having a spiral electrode body without decreasing the intensity of welding by specifying the combination of the thickness of the core metal projections of a positive and a negative electrode rolled into a spiral form and the thickness of current collectors brought into contact with said core metal projections. CONSTITUTION:One end of the longitudinal direction of a positive electrode 1 is provided with a positive core metal projection 3 and one end of the longitudinal direction of a negative electrode 2 is provided with a negative core metal projection 4. After separator 5 is interposed between the positive and the negative electrodes 1 and 2 in such a manner as ro protrude the projections 3 and 4 from the upside periphery and the downside periphery respectively, the thus formed body is rolled into a spiral form to make a plate group 6. After that, a positive current collector 8 and a negative current collector 9 are brought into contact with the exposed end surfaces of the core metal projections 3 and 4, thereby constituting a battery. Here, the thickness of the positive current collector 8 is adjusted to be 2-3 times that of the exposed end surface of the positive projection 3 and the thickness of the negative current collector 9 is adjusted to be 1.5-2.3 times that of the negative projection 3. In addition, the positive and the negative current collectors 8 and 9 are welded to the exposed end surfaces of the projections 3 and 4 by feeding a welding current. As a result, a high intensity of welding is achieved thereby improving the shock resistance of the battery. In addition, the specific resistance of the battery can be decreased.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a nickel positive pole having high capacity density and active substance utilization with low cost, by filling nickel hydroxide with specific weight rate through electrolytic deposition and chemical impregnation. CONSTITUTION:Nickel hydroxide is filled by 90-60wt% in an electrode substrate through electrolytic deposition then filled by 10-40wt% through chemical impregnation. Alternatively nickel hydroxide is filled by 90-70wt% through thermal decomposition then filled by 10-30wt% through chemical impregnation. Alterntively a substrate impregnated with nickel nitrate is negatively decomposed in alkali solution then filled with nickel hydroxide by 90-60wt% thereafter filled by 10-40wt% through chemical impregnation. With such method a nickel positive pole having high capacity density to be employed in a nickel- cadmium cell can be obtained efficiently.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce variations of a distance between electrodes, thereby to eliminate inconvenience of the captioned cell upon inserting it into a casing and to stabilize cell performance by providing plural lines of adhesive-backed tapes wound around a group of spiral-shaped electrode plates for covering and fixing said group of electrode plates and specifying a ratio of an area occupied by said tapes to the whole peripheral area around said electrode plates in a particular range. CONSTITUTION:With a separator interposed between a nickel positive electrode plate 1 and a cadmium negative electrode plate 3, said electrodes are spirally wound to provide a group of the electrode plates. Said group of the electrode plates are then fixed with use of alkali resisance adhesive-backed tape 4 to construct a closed type alkaline cell. Said group of the electrode plates are covered with plural lines of the adhesive-backed tape 4. An adhesive area of the adhesive-backed tape is made to be 20-60% of an area of the negative electrode plate 2 forming the outmost portion of the electrode plate group. In addition, widths L1 and L2 of the adhesive-backed tape 4 are made equal, and a width of an exposed part of the negative electrode plate 3 is defined to satisfy a relationship of l1=l2=l3. Hereby, inconvenience caused by insertion of the casing can be eliminated and variations of performance of the cell can be reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To suppress increase of nickel nitrate concentration by using together a nickel electrode and an insoluble electrode as a counter electrode of a porous electrode substrate in an electricdeposion method which deposites nickel hydroxide on an electrode substrate. CONSTITUTION:A porous nickel sintered substrate 3 which is anodically charged is accommodated in an electrolytic bath 1, and on its both sides, insoluble electrodes 2a comprising platinum plated titanium and soluble nickel electrodes 2b are mutually arranged and a pair of counter electrode 2 which are cathodically charged are accommodated. Electrolysis is conducted in an electrolyte containing nickel nitrate, and nickel hydroxide is deposited on the porous substrate 3 to form a nickel positive electrode for an alkaline battery. By using the insoluble electrode 2a in a ratio of 20-70%, increase of nickel nitrate concentration in the electolyte is suppressed and an electrode having high capacity density can be obtained.
