    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a PLL frequency synthesizer capable of changing an oscillation frequency in a wide range without worsening phase noise with a simple circuit configuration without increasing a device size. SOLUTION: An oscillator 10 is composed of a PLL frequency synthesizer capable of switching an oscillation frequency by changing the frequency-division number of a frequency divider 18 that frequency-divides output from a VCO 12. When an oscillation frequency is changed, filter characteristics of a loop filter 30 forming a PLL loop deviate from proper values. Accordingly, it is devised to provide a feedback resister R2, consisting of a variable resistance element composed of a PIN diode, in an active filter 32 constituting the loop filter 30. A resistance value of the feedback resister R2 is controlled corresponding to the frequency-division number N (that is, an oscillation frequency) of the frequency divider 18. As a result, the filter characteristics of the loop filter 30 always have optimum values so as to prevent phase noise from deteriorating caused by a change in oscillation frequency.
