摘要： PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain high purity indole useful as raw material of tryptophan, perfume and the like from crude indole obtained from coal tar fraction, by removing impurities using carbon dioxide in a liquid or supercritical gas state. CONSTITUTION:Impurities such as methylnaphthalene are selectively extracted (1) and removed (6) from crude indole obtained by well-known method from coal tar fraction using carbon dioxide (2) in a liquid or super critical gas state preferably under a pressure of 70-300atm. and at a temperature of 30-60 deg.C, thus highly purified indole is efficiently obtained using carbon dioxide, which is of low price, harmless to human body and safe because of incombustibility, as a solvent. Besides, the method is not necessary of distillation for recovery of solvent, which is readily performed by reducing pressure or rising of temperature, and any retention of used solvent or impurities therefrom is not produced. Furthermore, any effect of heating such as change of properties, oxidation or polymerization is not produced because of low temperature-treatment.
