    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow both internal and external faces of a steel pipe to be masked simultaneously to improve working efficiency and productivity by including first and second tape application rollers or the like for sticking tapes cut into a predetermined size to the internal and external faces of the steel pipe in a masking apparatus for sticking a tape to a steel pipe end. SOLUTION: The masking apparatus 1 is for sticking a tape to an end 4 of a steel pipe 3 horizontally mounted on turning rolls 2..., wherein an internal tape application mechanism 30 is attached to a stand 12 mounted on a moving carrier 8 so that the mechanism 30 can be raised/lowered, while an external tape application mechanism 70 and a brush roll 15 are attached. The internal tape application mechanism 30 comprises a first wound tape holding shaft, a first vacuum roll for guiding the tape while sucking, a first swing mechanism for two-dimensionally moving the roll, a first tape cutter for cutting the tape, a first tape application roll for pushing the tape against an internal face of the steel pipe and so on. The external tape application mechanism 70 is also constituted in an approximately similar manner.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent incomplete grinding, and to improve productivity without damaging a steel pipe in eliminating a coating of a coated steel pipe by grinding the coating of the coated steel pipe by means of a grinding brush rotated at a high speed. CONSTITUTION: A coated steel pipe 30 coated by a coating 32 is placed on turning rolls 33, 33, and a raising/lowering base 5 is moved to the required level by jacks 6. That is, the center level of a grinding brush 12 is set to the center height of the coated steel pipe 30. Next, a second traveling truck 8 is advanced by a cylinder 9. A motor 14 is started to rotate the grinding brush 12. Simultaneously, the turning rolls 33, 33 are rotated at a low speed. The coated steel pipe 30 is rotated in the direction opposite to the rotational direction of the grinding brush 12. The grinding brush 12 is pressed to the coating 32 by a brush pressing means 22 so as to grind the steel pipe. It is desirable that a high-density twist brush formed by closely implanting wires on the outer peripheral surface of a disc is used as this grinding brush 12.
