摘要： PURPOSE:To reduce Nb content by dissolving Nb as an impurity in titanyl sulfate contained in an aq. soln. of titanium sulfate, precipitating titanium hydroxide by hydrolysis and then separating and calcining the titanium hydroxide. CONSTITUTION:The concn. of Ti in an aq. soln. of titanium sulfate contg. titanyl sulfate is adjusted to 10-120g/l and the concn. of sulfuric acid in the aq. soln. is adjusted to 500-900g/l (expressed in terms of H2SO4) by dilution or by adding sulfuric acid to dissolve >=98% of Nb as an impurity in the aq. soln. Titanyl sulfate is then precipitated, dissolved in water and hydrolyzed under heating to precipitate titanium hydroxide. This titanium hydroxide is separated and calcined at >=600 deg.C.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a titanium dioxide high in whiteness, hardly discoloring even under high temp. treatment, excellent in light resistance and weather resistance and having good chemical stability by forming an anatase type titanium dioxide, containing aluminum or zinc in the crystal and having an alumina coating film on the surface. SOLUTION: The coating weight of alumina is preferably 0.01-2.0 wt.% and the alumina coating film can further be surface treated. One containing 0.02-0.5 wt.% aluminum or 0.05-1.0 zinc in a crystal is properly used. The anatase type titanium dioxide, into the crystal of which aluminum or zinc is introduced, is obtained by adding an aluminum compound and/or a zinc compound in the quantity corresponding to the introducing quantity into a hydrous titanium dioxide obtained by hydrolysis of titanium sulfate and firing. The alumina coating film is obtained by dissolving the aluminum compound in a suspension of titanium dioxide and depositing it on the surface of titanium dioxide by hydrolysis or the like.

SOLUTION: In growing fine particles of a metal compound by heating and firing the particles, 0.1 to 5.0% by weight (in terms of fluorine) of a fluorocompound is mixed in fine particles of a metal compd. such as a metal oxide, e.g. a titanium oxide, a tin oxide or a zinc oxide, or a metal hydroxide, e.g. an iron hydroxide having an average particle diameter of below 0.1μm, and the resultant mixture is fired at a temperature of 500 deg.C or above to obtain particles having an average diameter of 0.1 to 20μm while inhibiting the aggregation.
