    • PURPOSE: To obtain powdery UO2 which has excellent formability, superior sintering properties and large crystal grain size and is appropriately used for producing UO2 pellets by allowing gaseous UF6 and steam to react with each other to form UO2 F2 particles, mixing the formed particles with an ammonium salt aq. solution while spraying the particles with the solution to form particulate ammonium uranate, and then, calcining and reducing the uranate. CONSTITUTION: In this method, gaseous UF6 and steam are introduced into a fluidized bed reactor 12 respectively through an introducing pipe 10 and an introducing pipe 1 to form UO2 F2 particles. At this time, the operating temp. of the reactor 12 is preferably 200 to 500 deg.C and gaseous HF produced as a byproduct is formed into an HF aq. solution with a condenser 13 and recovered as the HF aq. solution in a reservoir 14. The formed UO2 F2 particles overflow the reactor 12 and are introduced into a kneader 18, and also, an ammonium salt aq. solution is introduced in an atomized state into the kneader 18 through an introducing pipe 19 to form particulate ammonium uranate. Then, the formed ammonium uranate is transferred through a dryer 22 to a calcination/reduction device 23, and there, allowed to react with a gaseous mixture of H2 , N2 and steam, introduced through an introducing pipe 24 to the device 23, to form powdery UO2 and the formed objective UO2 is received in a reservoir 26.
