    • PURPOSE:To remove a needless electron generation source with good efficiency by impressing a magnetic field on a cathode-ray tube externally for making needless electrons to collide with a high-voltage electrode adjacent to the needless electron generation source. CONSTITUTION:Since field emission 33 emitted from a projection part 32 of a peripheral part of a hole 28 of a second grid 15 is deflected in the peripheral direction by a powerful magnetic field 34 to be impressed from outside to collide with an electrode part near a hole 29 of a third grid 14, the colliding point part is heated. At this time, the third grid 14 is melted to emit a large amount of metal gas. The emitted gas bombards field emission 33 accelerated to high speed to be separated into ions and electrons for being accelerated by a high electric field impressed between electrodes so as to make needless electrons 33 to again bombard the electrode for emitting more gas so that a process such as activation of BaO at the tip of a projection part 32 and high-voltage treatment may be repeated. Discharge is generated near the projection part 32 by repeating such a phenomen to consume big energy and to smooth the projection part.

    • PURPOSE:To detect and remove a CRT made of low melting point glass having a low dielectric resistance surely by impressing a high voltage on a conductive film formed over the inner surface of a funnel, and providing an earth band in the form easy to generate corona discharge on the peripheral surface of the low melting point glass. CONSTITUTION:On the peripheral surface of low melting point glass 3 is provided an earth band 13 in the form having a number of such parts as easy to generate corona discharge, i.e., sharp-pointed part 13a. Through an anode button 7, a high voltage from a DC high voltage power supply is impressed on a conductive film 10 formed over the inner surface of a funnel 2, and at this time, a large electric field is impressed on a gap 11 because of large dielectric factor of the glass 3. Corona discharge occurs at the sharp-pointed part or parts 13a of this earth band 13, and the outer surface of the glass 3 bears electric charges, and this part becomes the earth potential. This causes a high voltage from the power supply 8 to be impressed between the inner and outer surfaces of the low melting point glass 3, which if having a low dielectric resistance eventually will be destroyed in dielectrical terms. Thus a CRT using such glass 3 can be removed in advance.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively remove burr-like projections by causing electrical discharge to occur between the burr-like projections at the peripheral portions of a hole in a low-voltage electrode and a quasi-electrode inserted into a hole portion of an electrode applied with a positive high voltage, through application of a high voltage between the quasielectrode and the low-voltage electrode. CONSTITUTION:The vacuum vessel 33 is evacuated to a substantially wholly vacuum state. Thereafter, a high voltage of 40KV or so and an earth voltage are applied to a quasi-electrode 34 and a second grid member 15, respectively. At this time, since a high electric field is applied to burr-like projections 31 at the peripheral portion of a hole 28 of the second grid member 15, the field emission from the burr-like projections 31 collides against a distal end of the quasi-electrode 34 to cause the gaseous material adsorbed on the surface thereof to give forth or to cause metal vapor to generate from the quasi-electrode 34. Resultantly, electric discharge takes place in the vicinity of the projections 31 to effectively remove these projections 31. Then, an electron gun is taken out from the vacuum vessel 33 and, at the same time, the quasi-electrode 34 is drawn off. By sealing the electron gun into a glass bulb of a cathode-ray tube, assembling thereof is completed.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent destruction of a cathode and a heater and also to enhance knocking effects through the application of a high voltage by providing common floating potential to a G1 electrode, a G2 electrode, the cathode and the heater, and subjecting them to high-voltage processing. CONSTITUTION:A G4 electrode 1 is connected to a dc extra-high voltage power supply 9 and a G3 electrode 2 is given earth potential and a G2 electrode 3, a G1 electrode 4, a cathode 5 and a heater 6 are given common floating potential and a resistance R is brought as near to the electrodes as possible and connected to the electrodes 1, 2. When a high voltage is applied to the electrode 1 the voltage is added exclusively to the electrode 2, and evaporated Ba and impurities attached to near the electron-beam through hole of the electrode 2 and the electrode surface can be removed, so that stray emission is hard to occur; i.e., because the electrodes 3, 4, the cathode and the heater are all given common floating potential, no voltage due to creep discharge is applied to the electrodes and the rate of damaging to the cathode and the heater is reduced, whereby the reliability of a color cathode-ray tube can be enhanced.
