Then, high-pressure pulse is generated at a secondary winding n2 of the pulse transformer T10, and high-pressure pulses are impressed on the discharge lamp 5 via routes of the secondary winding n2 → the discharge lamp 5→ a capacitor C3 connected between the other ends of each inductor L1, L2 → the secondary winding n2, to start the discharge lamp 5 to light. The lighting device is provided with a pre- charging means of charging the first capacitor immediately after the application of power.
