    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surpress deterioration of an electrode in an early stage caused by unbalanced burden on the electrode plate arising from vibration of a group of electrodes, by solidifying with alkali silicate a lower part of a group of electrodes for sealed lead storage battery in a battery jar and by arranging the group of electrodes at a predetermined place so that they do not move. SOLUTION: A lower part of a group of electrode plates is solidified with sodium silicate and the like under a condition in which the group of electrode plates consisting of a positive electrode plate 1, a negative electrode plate 2 and a separator 3 is contained in a battery jar 4. For example, electrolyte mixed with sodium silicate is injected in each cell, and after the group of electrode plates is inserted in the battery jar gelatin of the electrolyte is made by leaving it as it is or drying it so that the group of electrode plates are solidified. The sodium silicate to use is preferably composed of 20-21weight% of Na2 O, not more than 0.95% of SiO2 and 79-80% of H2 O. The lower part of the group of electrode plates is impregnated in aqueous solution mixed with sodium silicate and dilute sulfonic acid.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a defective circuit voltage in a shipment inspection so as to improve battery quality by connecting all the batteries in the corresponding lot in parallel after initial charging for matching open circuit voltages with each other. SOLUTION: A negative electrode using carbon applied to a copper foil as a negative electrode active material and a positive electrode using lithium cobaltate as a positive electrode active material are wounded several times via a separator into a roll-shaped group of components. Constant current charging is finished when a battery voltage reaches 4.1 V. Subsequently, all the batteries in the same production lot are connected in parallel so as to be left standing, and the battery voltage match each other. After again is carried out further, an open circuit voltage inspection is carried out and only a secondary battery with a defective open circuit voltage is rejected. In this way, variation of an open circuit voltage is reduced, and a secondary battery causing minor internal short circuit can be easily selected so as to be removed. Alternatively, matching of voltage may be carried out by performing parallel connection in aging or after aging.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent the drop of the capacity of a battery by specifying the volume of a battery jar at 10 -10 mm , and making a battery vessel of material allowing specified water to permeate itself, and besides, putting the compression ratio of a separator at the specified value sought with the expression 1. CONSTITUTION: For the group of electrode plates consisting of a positive electrode plate 1, a negative electrode plate 2, and a separator 3, the volume of the battery body is 10 -10 mm .
