    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a porous ceramic material with pores passing therethrough so as to orient in one direction, which has excellent bio-compatibility and can swiftly induce the formation of living organism tissue such as bone tissue. SOLUTION: The method for producing a porous ceramic material comprises: a stage (A) where slurry including water, a ceramic raw material, resorcinol, formaldehyde and an alkali metal carbonate, and in which the ceramic raw material is dispersed is prepared; a stage (B) where the slurry is packed into a vessel, thereafter, the vessel is inserted into a refrigerant at a temperature lower than the solidification point of the slurry to a fixed direction, and the slurry is frozen from either edge part side to one direction; a stage (C) where the frozen slurry is dried, so as to obtain a molded body; and a stage (D) where the dried molded body is fired.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new porous honeycomb structure functionalized more highly in comparison with the conventional ones, a method for manufacturing the porous honeycomb structure and an air purifier using the porous honeycomb structure. SOLUTION: The porous honeycomb structure having adsorptivity and catalysis is a silica forming in which fine powder having adsorptivity and catalysis is dispersed. The method for manufacturing the porous honeycomb structure having adsorptivity and catalysis comprises a step (a) of mixing an ion exchange resin in a sodium silicate aqueous solution to prepare silica sol, a step (b) of removing the mixed ion exchange resin from the prepared silica sol and adjusting the pH of the ion exchange resin-removed silica sol, a step (c) of dispersing the fine powder having adsorptivity and catalysis in the pH-adjusted silica sol, a step (d) of gelling the fine powder-dispersed silica sol to produce silica wet gel and a step (e) of freezing the produced silica wet gel.
