    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for simple isotactic polymerization of a vinyl monomer under a milder condition.
      SOLUTION: A vinyl monomer is subjected to isotactic polymerization using a carried catalyst composition for isotactic polymerization of the vinyl monomer comprising at least one selected from the group consisting of metal compounds having one phosphine ligand per metal atom carried on an inorganic or organic carrier, or using a composition comprising a combination of the component above with a compound containing at least two selected from the group consisting of (a) at least one element selected from the group 1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 15 and 16 elements of the periodic table, (b) a 1-20C aliphatic hydrocarbon group and/or a 6-40C aromatic hydrocarbon group and (c) a perchlorate group.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alcohol, comprising reacting an olefinic compound with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst, by which the alcohol having high straight chain selectivity can be produced in one step reaction process. SOLUTION: This method for producing the alcohol is characterized by reacting an olefinic compound with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a rhodium compound, a bidentate organophosphorous compound, and a compound containing one or more of the group 8 to 10 transition metals in the periodical table excluding rhodium. The reaction is performed in the coexistence of a hydroformylation reaction catalyst comprising a rhodium-bidentate organophosphorous compound for expressing high straight chain selectivity, with one or more group 8 to 10 transition metals in the periodic table excluding the rhodium as a selective hydrogenation reaction catalyst for an aldehyde produced in the reaction system.
