    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melt-anisotropic aromatic polyester fiber having high strength and elastic modulus and free from problems of conventional fiber having difficulty in forming ultrafine fibers to place restrictions especially in apparel use, by reducing the single fiber fineness to 1.0 dtex or less to obtain the melt-anisotropic aromatic polyester fiber having good texture, and usable for a protective suit such as a bulletproof suit, a stab-proof suit, and an icepick-proof suit.
      SOLUTION: A sea-island type conjugate fiber has an island component comprising a melt-anisotropic aromatic polyester, and a sea component comprising a water-dispersible polyester, and has a ratio of the sea component to the island component is 10:90 to 90:10. The melt-anisotropic aromatic polyester fiber is obtained by dissolving the sea component of the sea-island type conjugate fiber in water, thereby attaining the single fiber fineness of 0.05-1.0 dtex after the dissolution treatment in water.
