摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming apparatus capable of detecting existence of a foreign matter which hinders exposure scan for reading image information on an original before reading the image information and exactly reading an image without being intercepted by the foreign matter even when the foreign matter exists.
SOLUTION: An original image scanning exposure device 12 and a foreign matter detection means 10 are connected with an original feeding means 14 via an overall control part 15. When the original is supplied to the original feeding means 14, an optical system of an original image scan exposure device 12 moves to a reading position and the foreign matter detection means 10 detects presence/absence of the foreign matter at the reading position before the original is fed. When the foreign matter is detected, positional information of the foreign matter is outputted from the foreign matter detection means 10 to a control means 11. The control means 11 transfers the optical system of the original image scan exposure device 12 and changes the reading position to the one where no foreign matter exists based on the positional information of the foreign matter.
