    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maintenance method of a recording head wherein defective nozzles can be detected without impeding the printing work, and the productivity of printing images of a high quality can be enhanced, and to provide an inkjet printer.
SOLUTION: The inkjet printer forms an image to a recording medium by delivering ink droplets d from nozzles 1a and 1d on the basis of image data in a process of scanning the recording heads 1A and 1D with a plurality of the arranged nozzles 1a and 1d back and forth along a direction orthogonal to a conveying direction of the recording medium. A detection light L which detects the presence or absence of passing of the ink droplet d is formed at the lateral side of the recording medium of the inkjet printer, along an arrangement direction of the nozzles 1a and 1d of the recording heads 1A and 1D to intersect a trajectory of the ink droplets d delivered from the nozzles 1a and 1d. In a process where nozzle arrays of the recording heads 1A and 1D pass the detection light L during continuous printing to the recording medium by scanning the recording heads 1A and 1D, the ink droplets d are sequentially delivered from the nozzles 1a and 1d of not fewer than one nozzle and fewer than all nozzles of the recording heads 1A and 1D. All nozzles are detected by a plurality of the number of scanning times.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To print a high-quality image by reducing a deterioration in image quality, which is caused by the poor measurement of detection of a mark. SOLUTION: This inkjet recording apparatus, which moves the recording medium by detecting the mark recorded on a recording medium, records the predetermined mark on the recording medium with predetermined timing by moving the recording medium along a sub-scanning direction with respect to a recording head which is moved along a main scanning direction, and controls the movement of the recording medium on the basis of a position wherein the mark is detected by a mark detecting means. In the detection of the mark, the inkjet recording apparatus computes the target movement amount of the recording medium on the basis of the position wherein the mark is detected. In the detection of the mark, the inkjet recording apparatus compares the computed target movement amount with a predicted movement amount which is prestored as the target movement amount of the recording medium, and switches the movement amount of the recording medium to either the computed target movement amount or the predicted movement amount, in accordance with the result of that comparison.
