    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a paper end even in use of dark color paper or paper with additional print on a dark color end when detecting the paper end being conveyed.SOLUTION: The paper end detection part comprises: an image forming part 30; an optical sensor (paper end detection sensor 4) that emits detection light to paper 100, which is being conveyed, in the width direction and detects the position of the widthwise end of the paper 100 by receiving reflected light; a reflection preventing part (through hole 6) and a reflecting part (a white opening/closing plate 7), which are selectively positioned at a detecting position on the opposite side of the optical sensor with the paper between them; a selection switching mechanism (white opening/closing plate moving mechanism 8) that selectively locate the reflection preventing part or reflecting part in the detection position; and a control section 20 that determines the position of the widthwise end of the paper 100 by receiving the result of detection by the optical sensor. Thereby, switching between the reflecting part and the reflection preventing part is carried out to accurately detect the end position for regular paper, dark color paper, or paper with additional print on a dark color end.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a paper feeding device which can consistently feed paper sheets, and preventing any trouble such as printing deviation, jamming, empty feed, and double feed.SOLUTION: A paper feed tray 31 stacks paper sheets P to be fed to an image forming part. Paper sheet elevating/lowering parts 35a-35f are provided to the paper feed tray 31 to partially elevate/lower the paper sheets P stacked on the paper feed tray 31. A control part adjusts the elevating/lowering positions of the paper sheet elevating/lowering parts 35a-35f by driving the paper sheet elevating/lowering parts 35a-35f when the paper feed determination part determines that the paper sheets cannot be fed to the image forming part. Thus, the paper sheets P stacked on the paper feed tray 31 are partially elevated/lowered to reduce the unevenness of the paper sheet P. As a result, the paper sheets P can be consistently fed to the image forming part.
