    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator of simple structure exhibiting excellent uniformity in light emission and excellent color rendering properties without producing unevenness or a ring in color or luminance on the irradiation surface. SOLUTION: The illuminator is obtained by integrating a plurality of shell-type LEDs each consisting of a semiconductor light emitting element having an emission peak of 380-420 nm; and a light emitter including three kinds of phosphor performing wavelength conversion of light emitted from the semiconductor light emitting element into regions of blue, green and red where the periphery of the light emitter is molded of epoxy resin. Emission color on the structural axis of the LED is the color within a region having a center (0.21, 0.47) and a radius of 0.1 on the CIE1976UCS chromaticity coordinates (u', v'). On a white screen separated by 1(m) from the end of the LED in the direction of the structural axis and standing perpendicularly thereto, color difference is within 0.01 between the chromaticity coordinates within a distance (radius) of sin (one half of the angle of beam spread of the LED θ 1/2 /2)(m) from the structural axis and the chromaticity coordinates on the structural axis.
