    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting means for spiral bevel gears which does not cause an error in pitch dimension. SOLUTION: In a single indexing, cutters are circularly disposed on a cutter head so that all cutters can move through a tooth groove to be formed in cutting a spiral bevel gear. Then, a workpiece is rotated by one by one pitch, and the continuously rotating cutter head cuts a next tooth groove. Since all cutters are not formed in intended shapes nor positioned in intended attitudes, different structures are formed in a tooth face which causes a deviation in pitch dimension. To avoid this problem, a face milling cutting method is proposed. In this case, the cutter head takes a posture for the previous tooth groove positioned at the same angle, about its axis, relative to the tooth groove to be formed. As a result, though all the tooth grooves are not generally accurate, the surface structures thereof become the same and an error is less caused in pitch dimension. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
