    • PURPOSE:To improve the oxidation resistance and resistance to wear caused by oxidation in a sliding nozzle plate by kneading metallic silicon and specified metallic silicide into a fire resisting inorganic material incorporating carbon components, molding it, thereafter sintering it to manufacture a sliding nozzle plate. CONSTITUTION:By pts.wt., 2 to 10 metallic silicon and 0.2 to 2 of at least one kind of metallic silicide among CaSi2, TiSi2, ZrSi2, MoSi2, WSi2, TaSi2 and NbSi2 are added and kneaded into 100 aggregate constituted of a fire resisting inorganic material incorporating carbon components. This mixture is molded and is thereafter sintered in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to manufacture the sliding nozzle plate. In the stage of the above-mentioned sintering by the metallic silicide added as a catalyst together with the metallic silicon, SiC whiskers are formed on the matrix part of the sliding nozzle plate. Since the above- mentioned SiC whiskers are constituted of perfect crystals without defects, they have about 2100kgf/mm tensile strength which is the one close to theoretical strength, and this tensile strength owing to the above-mentioned perfect crystals is exceedingly high one compared to that by lumpy SiC crystals.
