SOLUTION: The original cover opening/closing device comprises: a mount member mounted on the main body of a copying machine or the like; a support member connected to the mount member so as to freely turn, and mounted to the original pressing plate to support the original pressing plate such that the original pressing plate can be opened/closed; an elastic means disposed between the mount member and the support member, pressing the original pressing plate in the opening direction, and designed such that when the original pressing plate has an angle not larger than a predetermined closing angle, pressing force applied to the original pressing plate is weaker than the weight of the original pressing plate; and a fluid damper device 8 disposed between the mount member and the support member and designed so as to reduce the turning speed of the original pressing plate by operating only when the original pressing plate is turned in the closing direction and also has an angle not larger than the predetermined closing angle. The fluid damper device 8 is composed so that cushioning effect for reducing the turning speed of the original pressing plate decreases from a particular point in time during the movement.
