    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To refine the sliding surface of a cylinder case or a piston of a hydraulic damper in a belt tensioner while a change in dimensions is suppressed so that the coefficient of friction can be reduced, and thereby smooth the sliding surface and improve resistance to seizure and wear resistance. SOLUTION: In a state where the surface oxide is removed, a nitride layer 9 or a nitrosulfurizing layer is formed at least on one sliding surface of a cylinder case and a piston 41 provided in a hydraulic damper 4 of a belt tensioner, and thus the sliding surface is adapted to be refined to a dense, smooth, and hard surface property while thermal strain of a base materia in the process of forming the nitride layer is suppressed. Thus, the coefficient of friction of the sliding surface can be reduced, and thereby the surface polishing process required formerly can be eliminated.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a structure for making the outside dimension of an entire body compact with the smallest possible number of parts. SOLUTION: In a belt tensioner A, a rotatable tension pulley 1 can freely swing about a position deviated from the center of its rotation as a supporting point. A tension adjusting means for switching the tension pulley 1 so as to maintain the constant tension of a belt 80 and a damper means 4 for damping vibration or impact transmitted from the belt 80 are provided in parallel along the axial direction of a swinging in the side of the tension pulley 1. Thus, the outside dimension of the tension pulley 1 can be reduced. Further, the tension energiging movable member of the tension adjusting means and the load transmitting movable member 48 of the damper means 4 can respectively abut on a single protruding part 18 provided on the tension pulley 1.

When a radial load is biasedly applied to the axial directional one side of the outer side annular body 1, a withstand load property can be improved by providing the rolling bearing 5 on a side applied to a biased load.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deflection a coil spring, bring a coil spring into an immobile state, and to stabilize operation. SOLUTION: A one-way clutch A switches two inner and outer annular bodies 3 and 4, concentrically disposed, into a lock state, wherein the annular bodies are synchronously rotated, and a free state wherein the annular bodies are caused to effect relative rotation. The one-way clutch comprises a holder 2 to have pocket 6 wherein rollers 1 are peripherally rollablly contained in a plurality of spots on a periphery; and a coil spring 5 contained in a compressed state in the pocket 6 and energizing in a rebounding state the roller 1 to the lock side through a stretch restoration force. A protrusion 8 to receive the inner periphery of the coil spring 5 is formed on the inner peripheral wall of the pocket 6 of the holder 2. This constitution prevents deflection of the coil spring 5 and fixes the coil spring 6 in a home position.
