    • PURPOSE:To make possible soaking without impairing surface characteristic by charging the hot steel ingot of high crack sensitivity after the removal from mold into a soaking pit in a nonheating atmosphere to apply heat-insulation soaking, charging necessary fuel prior to extraction and heating and soaking the ingot to a minumum extractable temp. CONSTITUTION:In soaking a steel etc. of high S content and high crack sensitivity, the hot steel ingot after removal from mold is charged into a soaking pit of about =75% out of the residence time (within about 4hr) to be selected depending upon the kind and heat hysterisis of that steel ingot. Just before the extraction, the necessary fuel is charged to heat and soak the steel ingot to the minimum extraction temp. which has been standardized depending upon the varying intensities of the crack sensitivity of the steel ingot. In this way, the infurnace temp. at the initial state of the residence of the steel ingot in the furnace may be lowered, whereby the solidification of the steel ingot inside is accelerated and the residence time is shortened. In addition, the unsolidified rolling is averted and the occurrence of defects such as blisters is eliminated; moreover, the fuel unit may be decreased considerably.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the temperature distribution inside steel ingot, prevent the occurrence of mechanical pipes at the time of rolling and raise the yield of blooming by putting a high-temperature steel ingot immediately after demolding it from a mold into a soaking pit in order to soak the whole of the steel ingot by the diffusion of potential heat of the steel ingot without heating from outside. CONSTITUTION:A high-temperature steel ingot demolded from a casting mold in an ingot-making factory is soon put into a soaking pit and allowed to stand there for 4-5hr without heating from outside. Then, the steel ingot is taken out of the soaking pit regardless of the temperature of the pit within about one hour after the time when the temperature distiribution in the steel ingot is raised toward its center forming a normal distribution curve and its central part is coagulated, and then subjected to rolling for blooming. Since a 150-250 deg.C temperatur gradient exists between the central part and the surface layer of the steel ingot, metal flow toward the rolling direction of the central part of the steel ingot is accelerated during the rolling, the occurrence of mechanical pipes is prevented, and accordingly, yield of blooming can be raised.
