    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep rolling load constant and to prevent change in shape due to rapid load variation by executing load control for outputting a specific variation to a screw-down location when the rolling load is varied, and stopping the load control and returning to thickness control when the operation of reduction or release is executed by operators. SOLUTION: Variable variation ΔS* given by the equation (in the equation, Mc is a mill constant, Qc is a plastic constant, α is a tuning rate and ΔF is a load deviation.) is outputted to the screw-down location. By using this control in a state where inlet-side tension is not sufficiently applied, a metallic belt can be rolled without generating the rapid load variation. Consequently, the reduction of area, breakage, or the like caused by the load variation are prevented and it is useful for improving the working rate of rolling equipment. Moreover, by operating at such a speed as the operators can stop the equipment, the expansion of damage by an accident or the like is prevented but chance of breaking the belt is extremely low, so high-speed rolling is enabled and it is useful for improvement of working efficiency. By changing a software simply, its effect is attained.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a defective shape of a rolling stock in the case of increasing/decreasing control of amount of crown of a back up roll in a shape control method by a cluster rolling mill. SOLUTION: While rolling, a feed back control of shape of rolling stock is executed by operating a roll bender of an intermediate roll based on the information from a shape detector. At a time T5 in the feed back control, in order to change the shape of the rolling stock to the direction of edge wave, a bender force F is gradually decreased. At the time T6 when the bender force F exceeds a lower lowest limit F12, a rolling down motion of the back up roll is executed and the amount of crown of the back up roll is gradually decreased. On the way in which the bender force F is restored from the lower lowest limit F12 to the lowest limit F11, at a time T7 a secondary mode deviation ΔA2 changes to a negative value and the rolling stock tends to cause wavy edges. At the time T7 when the secondary mode deviation ΔA2 changes to a negative value, the rolling down motion of the back up roll is stopped. Thereby, the rolling stock is prevented from becomming the wavy edges state, and the rolling stock changes shape into a flat state.
