    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member and a clutch plate in which deformation of materials caused by cooling is suppressed and rust formation on surfaces is prevented, and methods for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: The sliding member includes: a matrix material part 110 made of steel; a nitrogen-diffused layer 120 with a thickness of 20-50 μm formed on the front face side of the matrix material part 110; and a nitrogen compound layer 130 with a thickness of 20-50 μm that is formed on the front face side of the nitrogen-diffused layer 120 and serves as the outermost layer. The nitrogen compound layer 130 and the nitrogen-diffused layer 120 in the sliding member are formed through: a heating step of carrying out a heat-treatment of a material made of steel in an ammonia atmosphere at 660-690°C; an oil cooling step of carrying out oil cooling at an oil temperature of 60-80°C after the heating step; and a tempering step of carrying out a tempering treatment while applying pressure onto the surface at 250-350°C after the oil cooling step.
