    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing good-quality and also inexpensive activated carbon by an energy saving process as compared with a conventional method enabling the effective utilization of a pyrolysis residue of a rubber product containing heavy metals such as a waste tire and a waste plastic. SOLUTION: The activated carbon is obtained through a mixing step of mixing the pyrolysis residue of the rubber product and a halogen-containing plastic, a heating step of obtaining a heat-treated substance by heat-treating the mixture obtained at the mixing step under an almost oxygen-free condition, a metal salt recovering step of recovering a metal salt extract solution by adding water or dilute acid to the heat-treated substance, a metal removing step of eluting a residual metal component contained in an extraction residue remaining at the metal salt recovering step with acid and a step of washing the residue after removing the metal remaining after the metal removing step and drying the residue. The metal salt formed at the heating step is used as an activation chemical and the metal salt extract solution obtained by selectively recovering the metal salt at the metal recovering step is added at the mixing step to reuse.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for sorting plastics, in which plastics can be sorted and collected easily at a low cost for each kind and the sorting accuracy is high, and a plastics sorter. SOLUTION: Two or more kinds of plastic mixtures previously crushed are thrown into a hollow-shaped sorting tank 1 and plastic powder is made in a fluidizing condition by flowing a fluid from a mouth for inflow 6 upward. The plastics which are smaller in specific gravities than that of the fluid surfacing on the fluid level is collected from a fluid level discharging pipe 3, and the plastic mixtures with larger specific gravities than that of the fluid are stratificated and separated correspondingly to the specific gravities. After the plastics 1 of the low specific gravities are collected from a discharging pipe 4b at an upper part in the immediate vicinity of an interface of each plastic layer, the mixtures of plastics 1 and 2 are collected from a discharging pipe 4c at a low part in the immediate vicinity of the interface, and subsequently the plastics of the high specific gravities are collected from a discharging pipe 4d at a lower part. The mixtures of plastics 1 and 2 collected from the intermediate discharging pipe 4c are again subjected to the next sorting operation.
