CONSTITUTION:The objective coated optical fiber can be obtained by coating a resin composition comprising (A) a polyalkylene glycol modified product with its main backbone constituted of condensate from polyalkylene glycol and dibasic acid, having at least two urethane bonds and at least one polymerizable unsaturated group (pref. acryloyl one) at the molecular end(s) {pref. a compound of formula I [R1 is H or group of formula II (R2 is divalent aliphatic or aromatic group; R6 is H or methyl; R7 is divalent aliphatic group), the sum of the number of H and the group of the formula II per molecule is 2, the number of H is 0 or 1, the number of the group of the formula II is 1 or 2; X is group of formula III (R3 is H or methyl; R4 is divalent aliphatic or aromatic group; n and m are each positive integer)]} and (B) a polymerization initiator (pref. photopolymerization initiator) followed by curing.

    • PURPOSE: To retard progress of crosslinking reaction and to maintain superior quality of small transmission loss for a long time by using a dienic polymer as a component of a covering material and by incorporating a specific amt. of an antioxidant.
      CONSTITUTION: A dienic polymer and at least 0.05wt% antioxidant are incorporated as components to be used into a covering material. The dienic polymer to be used is for example polystyrene elastomer such as styrene/butadiene/ styrene copolymer, more specifically, liquid dienic polymer contg. 10W50% styrene and having ≥50% 1, 4 bonds.Such dienic polymer has moderate rigidity along with superior moldability; i.e. it is coated on optical fiber by melting and then cured by heating or by irradiating with ultraviolet rays. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber immediately after drawing is coated with about 1.5mum thick UV hardenable type epoxyacrylate contg. 1.0wt% stearic acid as a nonsilicone type surface lubricant, and the coat is hardened in a UV baking oven. Then, it is coated with about 80mum thick dimethylsiloxane and hardened in an IR baking oven, and further extrusion coated with 12-nylon. As a result, an optical fiber good in strippability and high in junction strength is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To draw a glass fiber of high purity for optical transmission at a high speed by passing an optical fiber after spinning through a cooling die in which a non-reactive liquid material flows to cool the fiber then passing the same through a coating die in which a curable resin flows to coat the resin on the fiber and baking the same. CONSTITUTION:A base fiber 1 of quartz glass is heated to about 2,000 deg.C and is spun to a fiber of around 150mum outside diameter by a drawing furnace 2. The optical fiber is cooled in said cooler 3 while the non-reactive liquid material excluding a hardener, crosslinking agent, curing catalyst, curing accelerator, photosensitizer, etc. from the above-described resin comps. is supplied 4 in the advancing direction of the optical fiber. The curable resin compsn. together with the hardener, curing accelerator, curing catalyst, crosslinking agent, photosensitizer, etc. are coated and baked on the cooled optical fiber in the coater 6.
