    • PURPOSE:To improve a degree of freedom for arranging parts, except a generating element, such as a safety valve, terminal part, intercell connecting part, etc., by using positive and negative plates of specifically changing a position of a plate lug, and specifying arrangement of a connector for adjacent cells. CONSTITUTION:In the first cell 1a, a positive plate 2a having a plate jug 3a in fixed dimension A and a negative plate 2b having a plate jug 3b in fixed dimension B, from an upper part center of the plate, are arranged to be opposed through a separator. In the second cell 1b adjacent to the cell 1a, a positive plate 4a having a plate jug 5a in dimension B and a negative plate 4b, having a plate jug 5b in dimension A, from an upper part center of the plate, are arranged to be opposed through a separator. In the plates 2b, 4a, the shortest distance is provided between the plate jugs 3b, 5a which are connected by an intercell connector 6. An absolute value of a difference between the dimensions A, B is preferably set to 20% or more the width of the plate for preventing short-circuiting.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a retainer type sealed lead-acid battery having a trickle service life characteristic, a cycle service life characteristic and an excellent overcharge characteristic. CONSTITUTION:A powder layer 11 arranged around a plate group and a continuous foam body 2 arranged between a powder layer 4 and a storage battery cover, are provided, and the average pore diameter of the powder layer 4 is set larger than the average hole diameter of a separator, and the average hole diameter of the continuous foam body 2 is set larger than the average pore diameter of the powder layer 4. Through electrolyte inside of a battery is reduced by steam permeation as a trickle service life test makes progress, when the average pore diameter of the powder layer 4 is larger than the average hole diameter of the separator, the reduction in the electrolyte is caused from the powder layer 4, and an IR loss is not caused in the separator. Since the powder layer does not move freely, the expansion of a positive electrode plate by corrosion is restrained, and since the pressure degree of a plate group 3 is increased, service life performance is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To increase trickle cycle life and to reduce production cost by arranging a particle filled layer whose parctcles have mean pore sizes larger than the mean particle size of a separator in the surroundings of an electrode group. CONSTITUTION:Glass fibers having a specified mean diameter and a specified porosity is used in a separator. A positive plate and a negative plate combined with the separator are put into a container 1. Glass beads with a specified particle size are filled densely in a space surrounding an electrode group 2 from an electrolyte pouring hole 5 to form a particle filled layer 3. Foamed phenol resin with continuous pores is packed in the electrolyte pouring hole 5 to press the glass beads. Dilute sulfuric acid is poured into the container 1. The pouring electrolyte amount is limited to such a level that even if a battery is turned upside down, the electrolyte is not spilled out from the battery. The glass beads are made of soda-lime glass and have almost truly globular shapes, and have almost no pores. Particles of acrylic resin or polypropylene resin are used in addition to glass beads.

    • PURPOSE:Tp enhance the trickle service life characteristic and the cycle service life characteristic by constituting the battery so that an effective space part in a storage battery is situated under an injection port arranged in a cover part, and filling a plate group housing. space part with powder having an average pore diameter larger than an average pare diameter of a separator. CONSTITUTION:Ordinary glass fiber having a thickness of 1.5mm is used under pressurization of 20kg/dm , and a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate are combined with this, and a retainer type sealed lead-acid battery is manufactured. Next, powder 4 is filled in an effective space part having a weather strip member 6 of a battery jar 1 from a liquid injecting opening part of a storage battery cover part through a funnel 5, and a powder layer 3 is formed. Near-true sphere shape glass beads composed of soda lime glass are used as the powder, and the average pore diameter is set larger than an average pore diameter of a separator. Next, diluted sulfuric acid having specific gravity of 1.32 (20 deg.C) is injected, and a cover is installed.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the number of assembly process and to adapt even to a large capacity of battery by opening one surfaces of two battery jars, housing therein by dividing an electrode plate group respectively, fusing and sealing the outer peripheries of the battery jars with synthetic resin sheets whose center parts are opened, and fusing and sealing the sheets each other. CONSTITUTION:An electrode plate group which consists of a negative electrode plate 4, a separator 5, and a positive electrode plate 3 is housed in the recess 2 in a battery jar 1, while an electrode plate group which consists of a negative electrode plate 4' and a separator 5' is housed in the recess in a battery jar 1'. In such a condition, synthetic resin sheets 6 and 6' which have no center parts to prevent to interfere in the electrode plate groups, having a size to protrude to the outer peripheries of the battery jars, and allowing to heat-fusing, are fused to attach to the battery jars 1 and 1'. Furthermore, the protruding parts just outside the fusing surfaces between the two sheets 6 and 6' and the battery jars 1 and 1 are fused and sealed to form one cell. By such a constitution, the housing work of the electrode plate groups is made easier, the number of assembly process is reduced, and it can be adapted even to a large capacity battery.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the volume of a safety valve section by fixing a safety valve constituted of a flexible top cover section and a circular body section with permeability to an exhaust hole section. CONSTITUTION:A flexible top cover section 5 is integrated on a circular body section 4 with permeability to constitute a safety valve 7, which covers an exhaust hole 2. The circular body 4 and the top cover section 5 may be integrally molded, or they may be separately molded then integrated by sticking or welding. The circular body section 4 with permeability may be made of a porous body such as an alumina sintered body, foam polyethylene resin, foam acrylic resin or mullite beads, or it may be made of PP resin, acrylic resin or ABS resin having at least one or more permeable fine holes. No high protruded stripe is required on the exhaust hole section 2, and the volume of the safety valve 7 is decreased.
