摘要： PURPOSE:To eliminate erroneous discharge between an anode and a cathode by setting a period wherein a cathode maintaining voltage is applied in a period of anode maintaining pulses and turned off outside the period of the anode maintaining pulses. CONSTITUTION:A discharging type panel which performs discharge light emission by applying a cathode voltage including at least the cathode maintaining voltage SVk and an anode voltage including an anode maintaining pulse SVsus to each display cell of the discharging type panel where plural display cells are arrayed in a matrix is put in pulse memory driving in a subfield system. In this case, the period wherein the cathode maintaining voltage SVk is turned on in the period of the anode maintaining pulses SVsus in the maintaining period of each subfiled and turned off not in the period of the cathode maintaining pulses SVsus is set in the maintaining period of each subfield. In the anode maintaining pulse period, normal light emission discharge is therefore performed, but the cathode maintaining voltage is turned off not in the anode maintaining pulse period, so the cathode can be set to an erasing voltage level VE or voltage level where no arc discharge is caused.

摘要： PURPOSE:To perform aging in the forward and reverse directions with no replacing work of wirings by selectively generating either a negative or a positive scanning pulse in relation to a constant potential to be set up in an anode driving circuit so as to impress it on a cathode. CONSTITUTION:When aging in the forward direction is to be performed, the switches SW1, SW2 are changed over to the terminals (a), and positive constant potential is impressed from DC power supply 7 on an anode of a display panel. On the other hand, a negative scanning pulse is impressed from a pulse generation circuit 4 on a cathode through a shift register 5 and a level shift circuit 6, while turning FETP1 to Pm OFF and FETN1 to Nm ON. When reverse direction aging is to be performed, the switches SW1, SW2 are changed over to the terminals (b) and the anode of the display panel is set to 0V. On the other hand, a positive scanning pulse is impressed from the pulse generation circuit 4 on the cathode while turning FETP1 to Pm ON and N1 to Nm OFF. Thereby, one aging circuit can perform aging in the forward and reverse directions without complex work.

The field-by-field display of the half-tones is made by combining display times (e.g. T, T/2, T/4, and T/32) previously set for the respective subfields (e.g. 31a-31d) of the fields as to obtain the closest display time to a display time wherein a half-tone level Xi/2 which is a half as high as the original half-tone level Xi of the fields.
