    • PURPOSE:To mitigate voltage withstanding performance required to the components of a DC high voltage power supply by a method wherein, when the output current of the DC high power supply is cut off, a switch is closed to apply a current to at least one resistor. CONSTITUTION:An excessive voltage suppressing apparatus is connected to the secondary side of the stepup transformer of a DC high voltage power supply which does not have its own switch and whose output is controlled by an inverter 1 on the low voltage side, etc. The excessive voltage suppressing apparatus if composed of a stepdown transformer 3, a low voltage diode rectifier 4, a switch 5 and a plurality of resistors 6 and 7. When the output current of the DC high voltage power supply is cut off, the switch 5 is closed to apply a current to the resistor 7. By selecting the resistance value of the resistor 7 to be low, the energy stored ion the leakage inductance of the transformer, etc., is absorbed and a DC output excessive voltage can be suppressed. With this constitution, voltage withstanding performance required to the components of the DC high voltage power supply cam be mitigate and substantial cost reduction can be achieved.

    • PURPOSE:To produce a charged particle beam carrying a large current, good in the converging characteristic, and equipped with a high brightness by arranging a plurality of magnets around electrode hole provided in each accelerating electrode, and generating a quadripolar magnetic field within this electrode hole. CONSTITUTION:In an electrostatic acceleration system 2 to accelerate a charged particle beam by permitting it to pass through a single electrode hole 1, magnets 5 to generate a pair of quadripolar magnetic fields 4a, 4b are installed above and below and on the left and right of each of accelerating electrodes 3 in multi-stage arrangement. When a charged particle beam is incident to the downstream quadripolar magnetic field 4A, the beam has a larger energy than when situated further downstream, and therefore, a charged particle beam converged both in the horizontal and vertical directions is obtained by giving the upstream quaripolar magnetic field 4B a greater intensity than the other 4A.

    • PURPOSE:To build up an output current at a great speed by providing a bypass circuit, which consists of a series circuit comprising a resistor and a switch for bypassing, in parallel with a series circuit comprising a switch and a load, when supplying a DC output obtained from a rectification of AC to a load, that is an ion source, through a DC reactor and a semiconductor switch. CONSTITUTION:In a normal operation state, a current is supplied to an ion source 10 driving a GTO 8 during the operation period of a AC thyristor switch 2. After that, if short-circuit would occur in the ion source 10, GTO operation signal 12 provides a down-edge, that is a GTO off command, to turn off the GTO 8 so as to interrupt an output current to the ion source 10. And, in a bypass circuit operation controll circuit 17, a bypass circuit operation signal 18 is generated by the down-edge of the signal 12 to turn on a GTO 15. Consequently, the output current is built up at a great speed, when reclosing the ion source 10 after it is interrupted, by equalizing a resistor 14, connected to the GTO 15 in a circuit 13, to the resistance value of the ion source 10 as a load, when the interrupted output current is communicated into the circuit 13.

    • PURPOSE:To give a radiation shielding ability and high insulating property to a high voltage feeder and, at the same time, to shield radiation without making any special construction work to the perforated section of the partition of a building by forming a labyrinth structure composed of a material having a radiation shielding ability between an inner and outer tubes. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of projections 13 made of a material having a radiation shielding ability are fitted to the external surface of an inner tube 9 in the axial direction toward an outer tube and a plurality of projections 14 made of the material having the radiation shielding ability are fitted to the internal surface of an outer tube 10 in the axial direction toward the inner tube 9. The projections 13 and 14 are fitted to the inner and outer tubes 9 and 10 so that the projections 9 and 10 can form a labyrinth structure, with the projections 13 and 14 overlapping each other at some places, when the tube 9 is put in the tube 10. Therefore, no radiation leakage occurs through a high voltage feeder, because the radiation passing through the space between the inner and outer tubes 9 and 10 is scattered, absorbed, and attenuated by means of the projections 13 and 14 respectively fitted to the tubes 9 and 10.
