When it is desired to control the width of the buttonhole, by operating a key for amplitude control, only the parts B and C in the first and third steps and amplitude in the fourth step are controlled to be reduced or expanded but the parts A and C in the first and third steps and stitch data in the second step are transmitted to an amplitude stepping motor 5 as stored in a storage device without being corrected, and since the amplitude is controlled on the side of fixed and flat hem and an arcuate part is not changed at all, the key hole shape can be prevented from being crushed.

Then the thread passing lever 2 is elevated, the upper thread 6 is detached from the hook 5, and the thread end 6a is lead out of the needle hole 4a.
